MCI Foundation is the founder and an active contributor to the MarcoPolo partnership,
providing staff, technical support and funding since 1997.
MCI Foundation is the philanthropic arm of MCI, the leading global communications company. The
MCI Foundation focuses on national K-12 education and technology programs that address critical
needs of educators, students and parents in an effort to improve educational opportunities and
help all students achieve their potential. Through long-term strategic partnerships and measurable
goals that reflect the depth of the educational issues being addressed, the Foundation strives to
have a substantial impact on education and to set the national benchmark for corporate philanthropy
in this area.
The mission of the MarcoPolo program is to create premier, standards-based Internet Content and
provide the requisite professional development to every teacher in the United States, and to
maintain the program in a way that allows it to scale throughout the United States and be sustainable
over time, so it may enrich teaching and dramatically affect student achievement for generations to come.

The MarcoPolo Consortium also includes a state network to facilitate state-based professional development
and alignment of MarcoPolo lessons to state curriculum standards. MarcoPolo New York is an active
participant in this network. Its goals are to communicate information about MarcoPolo, arrange trainings,
track quality and progress against goals and align MarcoPolo content with New York State Learning
Standards. To date, over 6,800 NYS teachers have been trained in the use of the MarcoPolo resources and
over 1,500 MP lessons have been aligned to New York State Learning Standards.
